Starting from Coimbatore early in the morning, I had packed my bags, a playlist ready, and a spirit for adventure. The goal was not just to reach Bangalore but to enjoy every moment of the journey — and believe me, it turned out to be one of my best travel experiences!
Coimbatore
Start Time: 6:00 AM
The air was cool and crisp as I left Coimbatore city. Watching the early morning mist over the fields was pure magic.
Before officially hitting the highway, I grabbed a hot cup of filter coffee and a couple of idlis at a local restaurant — no better way to start a Tamil Nadu road trip!
Avinashi
About an hour into the journey, I reached Avinashi, a small town with a big heart.
I made a short stop at the Avinashilingeshwarar Temple, a thousand-year-old Shiva temple. The architecture was ancient and majestic — intricately carved pillars, peaceful courtyards, and the gentle chants made it a soothing experience.
It felt grounding to start my trip with a blessing from Lord Shiva!
Tips: Spend at least 20–30 minutes here; it’s very calming early in the morning.
Erode – Textile Town and River Sangam
Driving further, the road to Erode opened up with wide views of farmlands.
I decided to stretch my legs at Bhavani Sangameshwarar Temple, located where the rivers Bhavani and Cauvery meet. The sight of the two rivers merging is beautiful!
Local vendors were selling fresh guavas and peanuts — couldn’t resist picking some up for the drive.
Also, I noticed Erode is bustling with handloom shops everywhere — vibrant dhotis, soft cotton sarees — perfect souvenirs if you love traditional textiles.
Tips: If you’re into shopping, spare a quick hour at Erode’s local markets!
Salem – Temples, Hills, and Tasty Food
As I approached Salem, the hills started appearing faintly in the background — a refreshing change after the flat fields.
The highlight here was the 1008 Lingam Temple. Walking around this massive temple complex filled with 1008 small Shiva lingams was simply mesmerizing — it felt sacred and peaceful.
I had my lunch break here too — a typical Tamil Nadu thali with sambar, rasam, poriyal, and payasam. Nothing fancy, but it tasted heavenly after a few hours of driving!
If you have extra time, you can also make a detour to Yercaud, the hill station near Salem. Though I skipped it this time (because I wanted to reach Bangalore by evening), Yercaud’s coffee plantations and lake are popular for nature lovers.
Tips: Fill up your fuel tank at Salem. After this, major towns are slightly smaller until you hit Krishnagiri.
Dharmapuri – Waterfall Adventure
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take a detour towards Hogenakkal Falls from Dharmapuri.
I did this on a previous trip and trust me, the coracle boat rides under roaring waterfalls are thrilling! You can also buy fresh river fish fried right in front of you.
This time, I skipped it because it would’ve added about 3–4 extra hours.
Tips: Visit Hogenakkal only if you have at least half a day to spare.
Krishnagiri – Mango Heaven and Relaxing Dam
Post-lunch, driving into Krishnagiri felt like entering a world of mango trees. Everywhere I looked, there were orchards lined along the highway, especially if you’re traveling between April and July.
I stopped at a local farmstand and bought a kilo of juicy Alphonso mangoes for just ₹100!
Nearby, the Krishnagiri Dam was a beautiful place to relax — calm waters, a soft breeze, and locals enjoying a lazy afternoon by the reservoir. It was a great spot to unwind before the final stretch of the journey.
Tips: If you visit Krishnagiri Dam, spend some time at the gardens nearby — great place for family travelers.
Hosur
By now, I could feel Bangalore getting closer.
Hosur, known for its greenery and industries, was a perfect last break. I stopped for a quick coffee at a cozy highway cafe and even visited the Hosur Botanical Gardens.
Small, clean, and peaceful — it was a refreshing stop after long hours of driving.
Tips: If you’re hungry, Hosur has some really good bakeries — freshly baked buns and pastries are a must-try.
